Cross Country 2017

What a beautiful day to run cross country. Lots of excited kids, nervous kids but most of all kids with a fantastic attitude. I was very proud of all the tamariki that achieved their own personal goals. Great to see everybody cheering and supporting their friends.

Netball

An absolutely terrible night to be playing netball. The rain was teeming down and it was cold. These girls just got stuck in and played the game. Great attitudes and netball skills.

Photo Day - Kapa Haka

It was a really cold day and all the tamariki in the Kapa Haka roopu were waiting patiently to get their photo taken. We are such a large group this year. Here are a couple of shots while we were waiting.

What a surprise! Thank you.

Our class loved the artists morning.
One of our artists, Brendon made a connection with one of the many artists in our class. Showing an interest in Brendon's work and helping him resulted in a present, to encourage him to continue his own art.
Brendon also presented our school with one of his fantastic pieces of art.

Can you see the manaia? Do you know what a manaia is?

Frog Whistle Mine #nzreadaloud

As a class we are loving reading Frog Whistle Mine by Des Hunt. We are in contact with three other classes via the Edmodo sharing platform. We tried to connect with Mrs Mac's class at Selwyn Ridge in Tauranga on the iPads via an app named appear.in.
Some groups had technical difficulties with slow feeds or sound issues. Most groups got to talk to other students and ask questions about the book, their thoughts and ideas.

Kea Hub Genius Hour

Kea hub is running Genius Hour on a Friday afternoon. Students working with Whaea Kat are working on an inquiry that has an environmental focus.
We have got our big questions and our now working together on our subsidiary questions.
A lot of discussions are happening. Such an exciting vibe across the hub.

It's as easy as Poetry - Pencils Writing Group

We have been learning to write nonsense poetry. We had to write a sentence about a noun, something that it couldn't do and compare it to something else that is impossible.

It's as easy as making a bee laugh
or a snowman put on a scarf.
It's as easy as making a chair talk
or a pencil walk.
It's as easy as making the Earth stop
or a chicken to make a stock.
It's as easy as making a flower to die
or your teeth to cry.
It's as easy as making a tree open a door
or a newborn walk on a plain old floor.  Alexus

It's as easy as telling a bee to make honey
or trying to find a break dancing bunny.
It's as easy as telling a light o turn itself on
or telling a snail to rip its head off. Ava

It's as easy as telling a baby to talk
or teaching a piece of paper to walk.
It's as easy as teaching a bunny to eat a bone
or to teach a bird to make a clone.
It's as easy as telling a frog to do hair
or telling a fly to eat a big grizzly bear.
It's as easy as asking an elephant to fly
or making a building bake an apple pie. Imogen

It's as easy as trying to shoot a fly
or telling a bird to die.
It's as easy as teaching a donkey to fly
or telling a tree to say Hi.  Mathew

It's as easy as teaching a flower to talk
or teaching a fire to walk.
It's as easy as having a dragon love a pig
or make a pig wear a crazy, big blue wig. Kate

It's as easy as making a monkey talk
or teaching a tree to walk.
It's as easy as putting a branch in a tyre
or setting a butterfly on fire. Maria

It's as easy as telling a bee not to sting
or asking a chicken to rip off it's wing.
It's as easy as making a tree hoot
or a spider wear a boot. Kaya

Akomanga Waru is a redwood tree spying the view of the city.

If our class were a kind of meal what kind of meal would it be?

Project Energize - Healthy Lunches

Erin from Project Energize, talked with us about the different food groups and how we can make our lunches healthier.

GLOW foods are fruit and vegetables.
GO foods are grain foods like grainy breads.
GROW foods are meat & meat alternatives and milk & milk products.

We need GLOW, Go and GROW foods to help our body to function the best that it can.

Erin also talked to us about SLOW food. This is food that are treats and not everyday food. These foods tend to be high in either sugar or salt.

We are going to check our lunch boxes to see what kind of food we have. Whether we have GLOW, GO, or GROW food.

Tuakana - Teina Buddy Reading

We are lucky enough to have Whaea Robyn and her class Akomanga Tahi as our buddy class. We are working on building our friendships with them. It is a lot of fun to read with our buddies. At the moment the weather is warm and sunny so we can read out in the playground too.

Did you know that there are 3 ways to read a book?
You can:
1. Read the pictures
2. Read the words.
3. Retell the story.
