School Garden

We thought we should explore the school garden. We found that there was many different foods growing there like plums, herbs, corn, pumpkins and lots of tomatoes.
We had a look inside the compost bins and had to smell it. There was certainly a lot of people holding their noses.

We are making ours a little more interesting!
We are drawing small pictures of things that tell others more about us, things we like e.g. food, sport...

Reading with our Buddy Class

We are so lucky to have a class from Kowhai team to be our buddies. We like to meet once a week
They are in Room 3 and have Hine as their teacher.
We like to read and talk with them.
We have many varied spaces where we can read with our buddies, like the deck, on the beanbags, at the standing tables, on the couch, on the wiggly stools, in the hallway, on the floor and on the spinning chairs and even at desks.
Sometimes we sing and dance with them.
We even keep an eye out for them in the playground.

Senior Kapa haka

Stunning.

Welcome Back.

Welcome back to Hamilton East School for 2016.

We are a class of year 5 and 6 learners in Kauri Team.

We are readers, listeners, mathematicians, artists, scientists, authors, dancers, actors, athletes and so much more.
We are striving to use our inquiring minds for learning.
We want to show younger students that we are kind and caring and that we are people that they can look up to or come to for help.

Reading with our friends.

Sketching - quietly focused, using a whispering pencil.

 Singing songs together.

Kapa Haka - 1st Pratice and Powhiri

Our first Kapa Haka practice for 2016 was outside as the hall still wasn't ready for us to use. This was just for students who were in the Kapa Haka roopu last year. It was pretty hot in the sun.
We had to keep moving into the shade beneath the trees. We are lucky to have Whaea Penny and Troy back to teach us.

We had our first powhiri and Positive Assembly to welcome our new teachers Whaea Georgia and Mrs Hamilton.
