100 Days at School!

Each morning we work out our class attendance showing the family of facts.
eg 31 - 6 = 25
31 - 25 = 6
6 + 25 = 31
25 + 6 = 31
We have been counting how many days we have been at school this year. Then we mark off the place value and the Roman Numerals.

We decided that we would have a 100 day party when we had been at school 100 days to celebrate all our hard work.

Look at this beautiful chocolate cake that was baked to share with the class. Yummy!

Peace Walk

In Term 2 on a Friday after Positive Assembly, the whole school went on a Peace Walk down to Memorial Park. Our class walked with our Buddy Class (Room 6).
We have been learning about ANZAC Day and its significance to the people of Aotearoa.

We placed a wreath of poppies for the fallen soliders.

Cross Country

Cross Country - Jafar

Got out of the the car nerves shimmered down to the end of my toes, beads of rain dropped.
I was waiting in the rain for the classroom to open. Seeing kids getting ready for the race.

I went to the gate and saw kids prepare, Danielle asked some kids for help to create the track, she told me to take the table.

Slowly went up the slippery hill, I saw my friends coming through the gate.
Hamish runs to me in a hyped way.
We walked classroom while were shimmering with nerves.

The bell rings I shake around.I took off my jacket and lined up to go down the hill.
Year six boys getting ready by the shelter.

Now we line up  IN YOUR MARKS GET SETS GO...

" I was thinking how good it would be to come first, I was repeatedly saying ' I can do it!' Hamish

"As soon as the blocks smashed together I got a huge fright." Kanye

" I was still running and I never gave up. I was proud. The finish line was in front of me. I could hear people cheering for us." Ryal

"The kids were pushing and trying to get in front of us all, as I'm trying to pace myself for the hill." Jafar

Museum Trip

We were lucky enough to visit the Waikato museum with Hine and our buddy class.
On the museum trip we got to get some I spy charts and there was an information mini game treasure hunt. We looked after our buddies while we were moving around the museum coolecting clues.

We learnt a lot about Maori culture and the story behind ANZAC day.

We got to go around the whole museum when we were playing I Spy.

We got to see interesting art, that was abstract.

We got to see the stars in the cosmodome.

When we went in the cosmodome I almost fell over.

We got lost in the stars that were above our heads. It was an awesome experience.

Did you know that the Matariki group of stars has over 1000 stars? Can you guess how many?

Grandparents Day

"For Grandparents Day, I showed my grandparents around the school. I played word bingo with them. We also did dancing with them."

"I particularly enjoyed having the opportunity to show my grandaprents what I am up to in my education."

" I showed my grandparents my work and they were happy to see it. The grandaprents talked to other kids in the class. They listened to Whaea Kat reading a story about a scary nana (The Were Nana) with us."

Te Wiki o te Reo Maori

Tēnā koutou katoa

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori

Our focus this week is learning to speak and understand more Te Reo Māori than we currently know.
We are going to ask the question -
Ko wai ōku tīpuna - Who are my ancestors?

Why is this photo important? Who is in it? Do you know what they are doing?

We are going to be learning new kupu each day. Ka mau te wehi!

Whaea Karen and Matua Peter are going to be visiting each class in the school to share Maori myths and legends with us.

Harvest Festival

Every year our school celebrates the harvest of vegetables in our school garden.

Pesto on baguettes.

Cherry Tomatoes.

Pesto baguettes, cherry tomatoes, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds.

Room 6 saying Karakia before we eat.

The whole school makes kai to share with each other. It is one of the special things that we do altogether at Hamilton East School.
