White Tail Spider

As a class we all read the non-fiction book the White Tailed Spider to learn how to use evidence to support our ideas about what we think. We were given cards that had different features on them to identify spiders. We had to sort the cards into two piles, those that could be a white-tail spider and those that couldn't be.

Whaea Kat asked us " What evidence do you have that makes you think that it is or isn't a white- tailed spider?"

We used the information in the books to support our ideas.

  1. I haven't seen a white tailed spider so I found this information really useful. Do they actually bite hard and can they cause lots of damage to the skin? Are they also considered to be the most dangerous spider in NZ now? I look forward to your answers.

  2. Yes the white tail spider is the most dangerous in NZ. No, it will not harm your skin but it will itch. You would need to put a ice pack on it and the itch will go away a few weeks later. The Red Back spider that is found in NZ can kill you though. I wonder if people know where Red Back spiders live? Jason Room 17
