Self Portraits

We have used Cassie Stephens blog as a motivation to design and make our own portraits.
We followed the youtube clip on how to draw the face. We had to bring in lots of tables in our class so we could all work on our art at the same time.

We could choose whether we wanted to draw with a pencil or felts. We learnt about different shapes like the football shape for the eye and colours.
Did you know that there are

  • primary colours - red, blue, yellow
  • secondary colours - green, orange, purple
You need to mix the primary colours to make secondary colours.
Once we had drawn the face we covered the lines with a mixture of black paint and pva glue. Then we used the chalk pastels to blend and smoosh the colours together. It was such a fun process and we have displayed them all in the class.

Hand Hygiene

Today the Public Health nurses came to talk to us about hand hygiene.

When to wash your hands
- After coughing and sneezing
- After playing or working outside
- Before preparing or eating food
- After using the bathroom
- After playing with animals

They explained how to wash our hands
1. Wet your hands
2. Put soap on your hands
3. Wash your hands - rub your hands for 30 secs which is like singing happy birthday twice.
4. Rub your hands together, between your fingers, the backs of your hands, your thumbs and your wrists

5. Rinse the soap off
6. Dry your hands

They showed us how easy it is to spread germs by putting glitter and hand sanitizer on our hands. Then we had to shake hands. You could see the glitter on people's hands, faces, the floor, in their hair. It was crazy how far that it spread.
