Waikato Museum

Today Room 10 went to the How to Make a Monster exhibition at the museum. It was a great day!

We discovered that silicone is another word for rubber and the crocodile from 'Peter Pan' was made out of it.

We also discovered that the gorilla costumes in 'George of the Jungle' were made from goat hair and were 'punched' into the suit, one hair at a time!

We watched some fascinating movies that showed how costumes were made and how the animals and creatures were automated.

Thanks Ray for teaching us so much about this exhibition.

..... From learning about Monsters we went down to the Marae with Nathan and learnt about the Taniwha!

We got to hear stories and chose one to turn into a play. Below are some photos that show our performance. I wonder if you can spot the Taniwha?

  2. We made our own monster and it was Awesome! We learnt how they made George in the jungle costume and how they put hair in to the costume it was so interesting :)!

I was the maori chief and it was really awesome. I went around New Zealand and planted in where the 5 Taniwhas can guard and the most powerful chief in the Waikato River.
We then had to guess either a Mythical Creature or a Monster some of the guesses were
Pegisis, Dragon, Fairy, Unicorn, Goblin, Vampire and a Giant.

    From Tare and Kaorite.
